Boilerplate HomeWelcome to the home website of the Boilerplate RPG system.NewsOctobre the 25th, MMIXI have undertaken my great labour and am in generally high spirits. Thru the next months I expect that the result shall grow and that I shall learn much more by the building of this machine as I would by the silent and dutiful study under that thrice-cursed fool Augustus Ward. Tho I am accustomed to the wilderness and solitude of Cybrespase, and indeed face it with a gladder heart, I cannot help but wonder who will be first to recognize my werk, if any at all... ~~From the Journal of One Master J.D. Pawlicki Getting StartedBoilerplate is a pen-and-paper role-playing system. It is designed to be a flexible and organized rules system that gives the players the freedom to use their creativity. It also aims to take advantage of the drumbeat of human progress and utilize the internet as a distribution and reference method. As such, Boilerplate is distributed primarily in a hyper-text format, though a download of a more traditional book format will be available.Boilerplate is designed around a steampunk setting, but is easy to adapt to other genres of setting. The rules of Boilerplate are sorted into modules. A gaming group can then choose to play with whichever modules tickle their fancy, or replace them with their own. Boilerplate approaches all objects animate or inanimate through the same rules framework, which allows for some very interesting effects and abilities, as well as fewer annoying special cases that seem to slip the mind. The classless character system is designed to enable a great variety of characters, and avoid some of the balance problems evident in other systems. Finally, Boilerplate is released for free, and invites players to redistribute and modify it (in a not-for-profit manner, with attribution, see the Legal section for details). So if you're interested, come take a look. |
